Brazilian Douglas Costa, a former Bayern Munich and Juventus midfielder, will play next season for Mexican Javier’s Los Angeles Galaxy Chicharito Hernández, confirmed this Thursday the North American Soccer League (MLS) team.
The 31-year-old Brazilian international will join the Galaxy for the first six months on loan from Gremio de Porto Alegre.
At the end of the loan, Costa will sign for another year and a half with the Galaxy until the end of the 2023 campaign, the Los Angeles club detailed.
“Douglas is a world-class player and a proven champion at the highest level. His ability to create and finish will add another level to our attack,” Galaxy head coach Greg Vanney said in a statement.
The Californian team is the most successful in the MLS but is going through a bad sporting moment and last season did not qualify for playoffs.
Costa will replace the Mexican Jonathan dos Santos, who left for América from Mexico, in midfield.
In addition to Costa, the MLS has added other important names this week, ahead of the new season that starts on February 26: the Swiss Xherdan Shaqiri (Chicago Fire) and the Ecuadorian Michael Estrada (DC United). (D)
