Unicaja de Málaga announced this Thursday the signing of Ibon Navarro as the new coach, with a contract for what remains of the season and the possibility of extending itand replacing the Greek Fotis Katsikaris, dismissed last Sunday.
“Unicaja has a new coach. The Malaga club has reached an agreement with the coach Ibon Navarro (Vitoria, April 30, 1976) to lead the team until the end of the season with the option of extending the relationship with the desire to start a new project”, confirmed the Andalusian team.
Unicaja, which has been reinforced in recent weeks with the signings of Dejan Kravic and Matt Money, is experiencing a complicated season who trusts to refloat from the hand of Navarro. The Basque coach worked for the last four years at MoraBanc Andorra until last January, when he was dismissed due to poor results.
Navarrese made his debut as head coach in 2014 at the helm of Baskonia and later it also passed through Manresa and UCAM Murcia. The Basque coach takes Unicaja after staying out of the Copa del Rey and occupying the thirteenth position in the Endesa League, with seven wins, two above relegation and three from the ‘playoffs’ zone due to an irregular dynamic that cost him the put Katsikaris after just one year in office.
