Russian skier denied information about his retirement after a failure at the Olympics

Russian skier Sergei Ustyugov denied information about his retirement after an unsuccessful performance in the sprint race at the Beijing Olympics. He spoke about this on Instagram.

“There is a lot of information in the media that I am giving up racing, that I am ending my career. This is not true, ”said the athlete. 29-year-old Ustyugov thanked the fans for the kind words and noted that they were even more upset than he was.

On Tuesday, February 8, Ustyugov failed to reach the sprint final at the Olympics. After the race, he said that he had lost the main start, which he had been waiting for eight years, and thought about ending his career.

The bronze medal in the sprint was won by Russian Alexander Terentiev. The 22-year-old debutant of the Games lost only to four-time Olympic champion from Norway Johannes Klebo and Pyeongchang-2018 silver medalist from Italy Federico Pellegrino.

Ustyugov is a two-time world champion in skiathlon and team sprint in 2017. Also in the 2016/17 season, he became the winner of the Tour de Ski multi-day race.
