Honored coach of the USSR in figure skating Tatyana Tarasova appreciated the call of the Canadian journalist of the CBC Sports channel Sarah Jenkins to remove figure skating from the Olympic Games program due to Russian dominance. Her words are quoted by RB Sport.
“There are a lot of idiots!” – such a phrase the coach called the behavior of Canadians. She stressed that she did not understand Jenkins’ motivations and declined to further discuss their behavior. Tarasova said she was satisfied with the results of Russian athletes at the Beijing Olympics.
Jenkins launched her initiative on February 7th. She suggested abandoning figure skating because of Russia’s leadership, skiing because of Norway, bobsledding because of Germany, and speed skating because of the Netherlands. Later, in a comment to Sport-Express, she stated that it was irony.
Earlier that day, Russian figure skaters won the team tournament at the Beijing Olympics. As part of the Russians, the winners were Kamila Valieva, Mark Kondratyuk, Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov, as well as Anastasia Mishina and Alexander Gallyamov.
