The Russian team dropped to third place in the medal standings of the Beijing Olympics. TASS writes about it.
After freestyle skier Gu Ailing Eileen won the big air event, Chinese athletes took first place with three gold and two silver medals. In second place was the Swedish team, which has three gold medals.
Gold for the Russian team was won by skier Alexander Bolshunov (skiathlon) and figure skaters in the team tournament. Silver went to skiers Natalya Nepryaeva, Denis Spitsov in skiathlon and the Russian team in the mixed team tournament in ski jumping, and bronze went to freestyle skier Anastasia Smirnova in mogul and biathletes in the mixed relay.
The day before, on February 7, the Russian team consisting of Irma Makhini, Danil Sadreev, Irina Avvakumova and Yevgeny Klimov won silver in the team ski jumping tournament at the Beijing Olympics. Domestic skiers have won a medal in this sport for the first time since 1968. For the Russian team, this is the first award in the history of the team.
The Beijing Olympics will run until February 20. Domestic athletes compete at the Games under the auspices of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC).
