This was Sarah Escobar’s career in the Winter Games; she advanced to the final instance but did not finish the sleeve | Other Sports | sports

Although she claims to be disappointed that she did not complete the second heat in the giant slalom event, Sarah Escobar made history in Beijing-2022. The first Ecuadorian woman in a Winter Olympics in history competed against the stars of alpine skiing and was not daunted.

The event was held at 20:30 on Sunday, February 6 (09:30 Chinese time on Monday, February 7). The artificial snow track received 82 women from different countries, only 60 finished the first part. Among the first 22 eliminated was the American Mikaela Shiffrin, two-time Olympic champion.

Shiffrin being among the best in the ranking World Championship started in the top eight with the advantage of having the track in better condition than their opponents. And it is that with the continuous descents, gaps or spaces are generated that make the route more difficult.

Sarah started in 78th place, adding that difficulty to her race, so at the end of the first round her great emotion was noted for the simple fact of having finished it. The Ecuadorian did it in 1:21:26 and advanced to the final instance that took place three hours later.

In the second race he started in 60th place, the last place in the order, so he already felt the problems of the track that already scraped his skis. In the first turn she could not control and was eliminated. Only 49 completed the entire competition.

The champion was the Swedish Sara Hector with a total time of 1:55.69. She was followed by the Italian Federica Brignone (silver in PyeongChang, in 2018) with 1:55.97, and the Swiss Lara Gut-Berhami with 1:56.41.

At 20 years old, Sarah faced the best in the world and did not waver, going through one of the most difficult routes for this sport.

Ecuador thus participated in its second consecutive Winter Olympic Games at the absolute level after the intervention of Klaus Jungbluth in PyeongChang, in 2018. Sarah also represented the country in the junior version of the Games in Lausanne, in 2020. (D)
