‘I am disappointed, but it is part of this sport,’ says Sarah Escobar after Olympic experience in Beijing-2022 | Other Sports | sports

The only representative of Ecuador in Beijing-2022, Sarah Escobar, the first woman from her country to participate in the Winter Olympics, expressed her disappointment after not being able to finish the giant slalom test on Monday, the only one in which she ran in the Chinese capital.

Escobar, 19, born in the United States, could not finish the last of the two races of the race.

“After a first lap and with my plan to finish the race, I skied conservatively. I decided to attack in the second moto. Unfortunately at the end of the track and its deterioration did not offer the best possibilities. Coming out of the starting gate, in the first part, I fell into an ice cave that shot me off the piste”, explained the skier.

“I am disappointed, but it is part of this sport. A race plan sometimes turns into a finished race, others into a crash, or something more serious as in the case of Nina O’Brien, to whom I wish a speedy recovery”, he added.

American O’Brien had a heavy fall at the end of the second course and was carried off the course on a stretcher.

Sarah Escobar hopes that this Olympic competition will be the beginning of new experiences.

“I am happy to have participated at this level of competition and I hope to continue fighting with the help of my country and my team on the World Cup circuit”, concluded Escobar. (D)
