ROC announces positive Canadian test for COVID-19 ahead of match against Russia

One of the Canadian hockey players passed a positive test for coronavirus before the start of the group stage match of the 2022 Games in Beijing against the Russians. This is reported by the Telegram channel of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC).

The organization did not specify the name of the athlete, noting that she was sent to the hotel immediately before the start of the meeting. The ROC emphasized that this fact adds to the tragicomic game.

Earlier on Monday, February 7, the IOC issued a statement about the bout. They reported that the match was delayed for an hour due to the refusal of the Canadians to go on the ice due to the non-compliance of the Russians with anti-coronavirus measures.

After negotiations with representatives of the teams, the match began, and Canadian hockey players played in masks for all three periods. The Russians and the judges removed their personal protective equipment after the second period. The match ended with the victory of the Canadian team with a score of 6:1.
