The runner-up in the overall World Cup is Marius Lindvik, third is Halvor Egner Granderud and sixth is Robert Johansson. The Norwegians were favorites on the normal hill in Beijing but they failed. Or – as Norwegian journalist Per Angell Berntsen claims – they were mostly unlucky.
Norwegian journalist disappointed: We were unlucky like the Germans
– We’re ending today without a medal. This is very disappointing, but also natural, given the unfair terms in the first series. We were unlucky like Germany, argues Berntsen, representative of TV2, the largest commercial TV station in Norway, in an interview with Sport.pl. The Norwegian may be right, because Marius Lindvik was probably the most unlucky guy in the first round. He jumped brilliantly in the last training sessions and in qualifying (he won the qualification), but faced very difficult conditions in the 1st round. He was given 2.9 points – this is the second highest compensation among all jumpers. In the second round he had better conditions, thanks to which he jumped 102.5 meters and advanced from 17th to 7th place.
Lindvik finished seventh, Johansson 20th and was disqualified after his first jump due to an illegal suit. – We were not lucky and our jumps were correct, but not quite good. Johansson had the most positive points for the wind – our interlocutor points out.
The Japanese became the Olympic champion on Sunday. The Austrian Manuel Fettner was second and Dawid Kubacki was third. Berntsen mentioned the Germans, and they fared even worse than the Norwegians on Sunday. The best of them was Constantin Schmid 11th and the leader of P¦ Karl Geiger 15th.
The Norwegians count on a large hill
Berntsen hopes that the Norwegian jumpers will perform better on the large hill. – Of course I believe in success. Our team is definitely better airmen. For that I hope Johan Andre Forfang and Daniel Andre Tande will come back. They will complete the ensemble, there will be more harmony in it. We are counting on a reflection in the next competition – concluded our interlocutor.
Forfang and Tande suffered a coronavirus infection after the World Cup competition in Zakopane and are flying to for the rest of the competition. On Monday there will be a mixture on the normal hill. Qualification for the large hill competition on Friday, and individual competition on Saturday. Next Monday, February 14, the team competition on the large hill. You will definitely have to watch out for irritated Norwegians.
