The judge speculated about possible sanctions for Bolshunov after winning the skiathlon

Russian skier Alexander Bolshunov is likely to avoid sanctions following the results of the skiathlon at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing. Arbiter Valery Makht discussed a possible punishment, whose words are quoted by Championship.com.

The arbitrator acknowledged that the Russian committed a violation by putting his sticks in the box of the Norwegian Johannes Klebo during the change of skis. “Norwegians can protest. It is difficult to prove that Bolshunov did this intentionally, ”Macht said.

He also noted that because of his action, the Russian did not receive an advantage. “The simplest and most logical thing is that the sanction can be in the form of a verbal warning. In the worst case, there will be a written warning. Disqualification, most likely, does not smell, ”added the judge.

The Russian skier earlier on Sunday, February 6, won the race. His compatriot Denis Spitsov won the silver medal. Klebo lost to all Russians and finished in 40th place.
