The coach explained the mistake of the Russian biathlete at the finish of the mixed relay

Yuri Kaminsky, head coach of the Russian men’s biathlon team, praised Eduard Latypov’s performance in the mixed relay at the Beijing Olympics. His words are quoted by Sports.ru.

“Edik climbed the last descent first in vain. It was necessary to sit at least second, and maybe third. He doesn’t have such experience, ”the coach explained the biathlete’s mistake. Kaminsky said that on the track he advised Latypov to let the opponent go ahead. The coach added that the athlete himself, when he saw the track, said that he had to follow someone here, but he didn’t do it today.

Earlier, Latypov explained the loss at the finish of the mixed relay. “On the last descent, I made a small breakthrough, but this was not enough to win,” the biathlete shared. He noted that the rivals rolled very well at the finish line and were able to get ahead of him.

The Russian team won bronze in the first biathlon race at the Games. In the mixed relay, in addition to Latypov, Ulyana Nigmatullina, Kristina Reztsova and Alexander Loginov performed. Biathletes from Norway became the winners of the race. The second place in the relay was taken by the French.

Biathlon competitions at the Olympics will last until February 19. A total of 11 sets of awards will be drawn. Domestic athletes compete under the auspices of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC).
