The Russian national short track speed skating team was disqualified in the semi-finals of the mixed relay at the Beijing Olympics. This is reported by the correspondent of “Lenta.ru”.
The Russian short track skaters, who took fourth place in the race, were eliminated from further competition due to an incorrect transfer of the baton. The US team was also disqualified. Due to the suspension, the teams were unable to participate in the final B for fifth to eighth places.
Semyon Elistratov, Sofya Prosvirnova, Konstantin Ivliev and Elena Seregina were part of the Russian national team. Ekaterina Efremenkova and Pavel Sitnikov remained on the bench.
The Chinese team won the race. Silver was won by the Italian team, bronze – by Hungary.
The Beijing Olympics will run until February 20. Domestic athletes compete under the auspices of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC). The tricolor and the national anthem were banned due to World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) sanctions.
