Xavi wins Emir Cup and wins seventh title with Al Sadd in Qatar

Al Sadd’s coach, from Qatar, Xavi Hernández won, this Friday, the Emir Cup title by beating Al Rayyan, of former French defender Laurent Blanc. Since 2019 as team commander, the Spaniard reached his seventh achievement.

After a 1-1 draw in regular time, the squad led by the world champion in 2010 got the better of penalty kicks (5-4) and won the title. The match took place at the Al Thumama stadium, built especially for the 2022 World Cup.

The former player of Barcelona retired from the pitch in May 2019, when he was playing for Al Sadd, the club he currently coaches. The Spaniard’s first title as a coach came in his first months in office, the Jassen Cup.

Afterwards, Xavi led the team in the conquests of the 2020 and 2021 Prince Cup, Emir Cup 2020 and 2021 and the 2020 Super Cup. As a player, the defensive midfielder won four Al Sadd titles: League 18-19, Cup 2017, Super Cup and Emir Cup 2017.
