Djokovic refund? Control was performed and results. From Serbs

The Belgrade prosecutor’s office has investigated whether Novak Djokovi used fake PCR test results to obtain an exemption from COVID-19 vaccination and travel to Melbourne for the Australian Open.

Application rejected

According to Serbian news agency Tanjug, Serbian prosecutors received a request on January 12 to institute criminal proceedings against “unidentified persons” who allegedly falsified the tennis player’s medical records. The prosecution then asked the Ministry of Health to verify the certificates of Djokovic’s PCR results on 16 and 22 December.

– The prosecutor’s office acted in accordance with the regulations, an inspection was carried out and it was found that Novak Djoković was tested several times, and the certificates of test results from December 16, 2021 and December 22, 2021 are valid, the statement reads.

The request for criminal proceedings was rejected. The prosecutor’s office in Serbia said there was no evidence to suggest that the test results had been manipulated. The prosecution’s statement came just days after the BBC released a report challenging the authenticity of Djokovic’s tests. The British pointed to discrepancies in the serial numbers of the tests carried out by a tennis player in Serbia, suggesting possible irregularities in the way they were issued.

Reaction to media reports

Serbian officials have not responded directly to the accusations made by the BBC. in which they argued about manipulation in the tests of the leader of the ranking. Djokovic’s team and the Serbian Ministry of Health did not respond to requests for comment from the Associated Press agency.

Unvaccinated Novak was deported from Australia and was unable to play at the Australian Open. The Australians explained that the tennis player did not meet the requirements for vaccination against COVID-19. Djoković argued that he had tested positive on December 16, which was supposed to be his “entry ticket” to Australia as proof that he had contracted COVID in the six months before crossing the Australian border. He also presented a test result on December 22, which was already negative, indicating that he had passed through an infection within a few days. Reports by the BBC and “Der Spiegel” undermined the credibility of these results.

Will he be vaccinated?

Djoković was unable to compete in Melbourne for the 21st Grand Slam title in his career. The title was won by Rafael, defeating Daniel Medvedev in the Australian Open final. The Spaniard is currently the most successful player in the history of tennis. Nadal’s victory was supposed to induce the Serb to vaccinate himself against COVID-19, according to biographer Djokovic.

Despite his absence from Melbourne, Djoković remained the world’s number one ATP rank and extended his record lead to 358 weeks. Since his return to Serbia, the tennis player has rarely appeared in public. On Thursday, he is to meet in Belgrade with the country’s president, Aleksandar Vucic.
