Barcelona’s debt exceeds one billion euros

Spanish football club Barcelona ended 2021 with a debt of 1.2 billion euros. This was reported on the team’s website.

According to Deloitte’s audit, Barcelona’s losses are 481 million euros and the payroll is 40 percent higher than other top clubs. At the same time, the team reduced its payroll over the year, abandoning expensive players, including striker Lionel Messi.

Also, during the study, suspicious financial transactions were discovered. Irrational economic transactions and unjustified spending were identified, due to which cases of illicit enrichment could arise.

The club’s board of directors has forwarded information about possible fraud to the Barcelona prosecutor’s office. At the moment, no specific persons appear in the case.

On August 20, it became known that the leadership of the Catalan club reached an agreement on obtaining a loan and revising part of the debt obligations. The Blue Garnets received a loan of 455 million euros.

Barcelona are facing financial difficulties amid the coronavirus pandemic. The club was able to reduce the cost of player salaries due to the fact that a number of players voluntarily advocated for salary cuts.
