A great bout of Polish handball players. Play with the champions of Europe

The recently ended European handball championships were quite different for the two teams. The Polish team, who had to deal with many organizational and pandemic problems, ended the competition in the second round and finally took 12th place. The Swedes, on the other hand, won gold medals for the fifth time in history.

Sweden’s capital tournament

The national team won this year’s games in Hungary and Slovakia in a big way. The results of the team from Scandinavia did not indicate this at all – in the first phase they won 30:18 with Bosnia and Herzegovina, lost 28:32 and drew 27:27 with the Czech Republic.

Later, however, the Swedes went from victory to victory. They defeated Russia 29:23, Poland 28:18, Germany 25:21 and 24:23 respectively. In the semi-finals they dealt with the French Olympic champions 34:33, while in the final they returned to Spain and won 27:26.

The history of Poland’s duels with Sweden

In recent years, duels with Poland and Sweden have taken place very often. The last time such a clash took place, of course, was in the first phase of this year’s European Championship. The Scandinavians had no problems with winning 28:18.

The four previous matches were also won by the Swedes – three times they were friendly matches (32:28 and 31:24 in November 2021 and 33:27 in June 2017), and once at the European Championship 2020 (28:26). The last victory of the white and reds took place at the tournament in 2016 – then the white and reds triumphed 25:24.
