The race to become manager is finally over. More than a month after the departure of Paulo Sousa and a multitude of names that appeared in the media, it seems certain that he will be the new-old coach of the Polish team.
The president of the Polish Football Association – turned to the former coach in the last days, despite the fact that he had agreed a contract with him a dozen or so days earlier. However, confusion was caused by the release of Andriy Shevchenko from the Italian Genua and the talks that Kulesza undertook with the Ukrainian.
Although both sides have reached an agreement, Shevchenko will definitely not become the coach of the Polish national team. All because the former coach of the Ukrainian national team did not agree with Genoa on the terms of termination of the contract.
“I chose the best possible”
So Kulesza returned to Nawałka, whom he will present as the manager on Monday at 1.30 pm at the national stadium in Warsaw. – Despite all these exceptional circumstances, I have made a choice that I am satisfied with and consider the best possible. The new selector has the appropriate predispositions and experience to perform this function, and with his previous work he proved that he deserved such a chance. He has my full confidence and support. We are starting the action “Russia” – Kulesza said in the interview.
And he added: – At no time was I influenced by media speculations. A lot of false or incomplete information appeared in the public space, causing unnecessary confusion and fueling artificially created chaos. I excluded myself from it, also thanks to my trip to Turkey, where I could not only hold talks and consultations, but also calmly think over the final decision.
The first match of Nawałka’s second term will take place on March 24, when we play away with Russia in the play-off match for promotion to the world championship. If we win in Moscow, we will play against the winner of the Sweden – Czech Republic pair in a direct match for the World Cup.
