The captain of the Russian national ice hockey team at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing has become known. This was reported on the website of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation (FHR).
The Russian team will be led out onto the ice by Vadim Shipachev. Nikita Nesterov, Sergei Andronov and Yegor Yakovlev were appointed as his assistants.
34-year-old Shipachev is the top scorer of the current season of the Continental Hockey League (KHL). He has 24 goals and 43 assists. The hockey player already has the Olympic gold of the Games in Pyeongchang and a victory at the 2014 World Championship.
Earlier on January 28, the former head coach of the Russian national hockey team, Vladimir Plushev, expressed concern about the situation in the national team. According to the expert, what is happening does not lend itself to any logic. “I see this mess in the Russian team. Someone, somewhere, somehow announced the candidacy of the future head coach, probably at the Night League matches. Someone got together and approved it,” he said.
The Olympic Games will be held from 4 to 20 February. The Russian team led by Alexei Zhamnov will play with teams from the Czech Republic, Switzerland and Denmark in the group stage.
