Cebolinha scores, Benfica eliminates Boavista on penalties and goes to the League Cup final

This Tuesday, Benfica and Boavista faced each other in the semi-final of the Portuguese League Cup. On neutral ground, at the municipal stadium of Leiria, the match ended in a 1-1 tie in regular time. Everton Cebolinha scored for the Lisbon team and another Brazilian, Gustavo Affonso, scored. In penalties, Julian Weigl converted the decisive charge and classified the Encarnados.

Now, Benfica awaits the result of the other semifinal, between Sporting and Santa Clara, to know the opponent of the decision. The teams face each other this Wednesday, at 16:45 (Brasília time).

The game – In the first half, at 16 minutes, the Encarnados opened the scoring. Everton Cebolinha received in depth at the entrance of the area and sent the back of the net.

At 40, the Brazilian ex-Grêmio had the chance to expand. Everton received in the area, but the ball went up a lot after the shot and went far from the crossbar.

In the second stage, at seven minutes, Morato, from Benfica, committed a foul inside the area and the referee awarded the penalty. The Brazilian Gustavo Affonso went for the kick and tied the match.

Then both teams had opportunities to win the game, but they didn’t convert and the decision went to penalties. In the collections, Sebastian Perez, Musa and De Santis lost to Boavista, while Grimaldo, Meite and Weigl scored for Benfica.
