Dutchman Wim Jansen, finalist in the 1974 and 1978 World Cups, dies

Former Dutch player Wim Jansen, who was part of the orange team, finalist for the world Cup of 1974 and 1978, he died at the age of 75, announced on Tuesday Feyenoord, the club he played for most of his career.

In a statement, Feyenoord paid tribute to “an icon” of the club, in which he was successively player, coach, technical director and adviser.

In addition to the two World Cup finals (2-1 defeats to Germany in 1974 and 3-1 to Argentina in 1978), Jansen, who played as a defender and midfielder, won four Dutch championships wearing the Feyenoord shirt, in addition to gives European Cup in 1970 and from Uefa Cup in 1974.

As a coach, he won two Dutch cups with the Rotterdam team (1991 and 1992) and the league a year later.

During the 1997-1998 season, he managed Scotland’s Celtic, preventing their biggest rivals Glasgow Rangers from winning the league for the tenth time in a row.
