COVID-19 infections in the Premier League are reduced after the latest medical examinations

Due to the impact of the omicron variant, the clubs have intensified the measures against the coronavirus to prevent the spread.

The number of COVID-19 infections among Premier League players and staff has more than halved in the last week, with just 16 positives recorded in the last seven days.

This represents a decrease for the fourth consecutive week and the lowest number of infected since last December 5, before the omicron variant wreaked havoc in the United Kingdom.

Between January 17 and 23, 6,221 tests were carried out on the footballers and employees of the 20 clubs in the competition, of which there were 16 positives.

The number of tests, however, has been halved compared to the previous week, when about 13,000 were carried out.

Due to the impact of the omicron variant, the clubs have intensified the measures against COVID-19 to avoid contagion, with the use of the mask indoors, the respect of social distance and the increase in tests.

In the United Kingdom, however, the measures applied in December to placate the new variant will be eliminated from January 27.

The wave of infections has caused a total of 22 games to be suspended in the Premier. (D)
