Federico Chiesa, a forward for the Italian national team and Juventus, who suffered a torn ligament in his left knee, underwent surgery on Sunday in Innsbruck, Austria, and will be out for about seven months, the Italian club announced.
“Federico Chiesa underwent surgery this afternoon (Sunday) to reconstruct the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee,” the Turin club said in a statement posted on its website.
“The operation was a complete success. The recovery period is estimated at around seven months,” added “Juve”.
Chiesa, a key player for “Old lady” and for Italy, he was injured on January 9 in a game against Roma (4-3). A day later, his club made official the severity of the injury, which represents the end of the 24-year-old’s season.
His Juventus and Azzurri captain Giorgio Chiellini acknowledged that Chiesa’s absence for several months was a “hard blow for all Italian football”.
Coach Roberto Mancini, whose team will play in the playoffs in March to try to qualify for the 2022 Qatar World Cup, supported the player.
“Injuries are part of a player’s career,” he wrote on Twitter. “What makes the difference is the will to get up and you have plenty of it. We are waiting for you, Federico,” he said.
