Paris Saint-Germain beat Reims this Sunday, 4-0, in the French Championship. With the result, PSG remains at the top of the competition, with 53 points, while Reims remains in 14th position.
The Parisians got off to a bad start. Mauricio Pochettino’s team had high ball possession, but without threatening the opposing goal. Gradually, Reims began to enjoy the match and to increase their markup.
The first good opportunity came from the visitors. Mbuku scored with Ekitike and finished on goal, but Navas saved in two halves.
Even at a bad moment in the match, PSG opened the scoring with Verrati, at the end of the initial stage. The Italian took advantage of the rebound after Icardi’s kick and hit hard in the left corner.
In the second half, Reims seemed to have felt the goal conceded in the 43rd minute of the first half and barely attacked the home team, which started to dominate the match.
In the 16th minute, the team extended the score with the Spaniard Sergio Ramos, being the first of the defender with the shirt of the French club. After the corner kick, the defender took the leftovers in the small area and pushed it to the back of the net. Shortly after the goal, Argentine Lionel Messi entered the field replacing his countryman Di María.
Just four minutes later, Verrati received a precise pass from Messi, led and hit cross, counting on two deflections, to score PSG’s third, being the midfielder’s second in the match.
Paris Saint-Germain continued creating chances and scored the fourth in the 28th minute. Frenchman Kylian Mbappé started on the left side and served Danilo Pereira. The Portuguese kicked from outside the area and the ball deflected into Faes before swinging the net.
With the triumph already defined, the Paris club still had a goal disallowed in the 43rd minute. Icardi received a cross and headed towards the goal, but the ball hit his hand, invalidating the goal.
Paris Saint-Germain returns to the field next Monday, for the round of 16 of the Coupe de France, against Nice.
