The International Athletics Federation (IAAF) authorized 22 Russian athletes to compete as neutrals in tournaments to be held during 2022, while the Russian Federation has been suspended since November 2015 for state doping.
The Doping Review Board of the IAAF agreed to approve the applications of the 22 Russian athletes by the exceptional eligibility criteria to compete as neutral athletes covered by the rule 3.2, according to a statement posted on the IAAF website.
Among the Russian athletes who will be able to participate in organized competitions this year are Maria Lasitskene, triple high jump world champion, and her partner Anzhelika Sidorova, silver medal in the past Tokyo Olympics.
The IAAF maintains the suspension of the Russian Athletics Federation since 2015.
In November 2021, a congress of the organization decided that the sanction against Russia would be extended until the definitive fulfillment of all the requirements of the IAAF, despite the “progress” shown by the Russian side. (D)
