he has had a successful first half of this season behind him. After 19 rounds, the team from the capital of the Westpomeranian Region is second in the table, four points behind Lech Poznań and two points ahead of Raków Częstochowa and Radomiak Radom.
The future of Runjaica is still unclear
The good disposition of Pogoń this season is largely a merit. The German coach, who has been working in Szczecin for over four years, prevented the Porters from losing any of the last eight league matches, noting five wins and three draws in this series.
The current 50-year-old is valid until the end of June 2022. At the moment, it is not known whether Runjaić will decide to extend the contract. To a large extent, it may depend on how the second part of the season unfolds and on which position Pogoń will end this year’s tournament.
Runjaić got an offer from the Greek national team
on his Twitter profile he said that Runjaić had an offer to leave the club from Szczecin. “The coach of Pogoń Szczecin, Kosta Runjaić, received a serious offer to run the Greek national team. Representatives of the Greek federation even appeared in Belek. The job was valid since February. The coach of Pogoń refused” – wrote the journalist.
The national team is currently without a manager. Previously, this position was held by John van ‘t Schip, but at the end of December last year, the local federation decided to part with him.
Kosta Runjaić took over Pogoń Szczecin on November 6, 2017. Since then, he has led the “Portowców” team in 154 games, 66 of which ended with victories, 43 draws, and 45 defeats. Earlier, the German ran, among others such clubs as TSV 1860 Munich, 1. FC Kaiserslautern, MSV Duisburg or Darmstadt 98.
