Real Betis took no notice of Espanyol and won 4-1 this Friday.
Even playing away from home and starting the game losing, the current third-placed team in the Spanish Championship once again presented convincing football.
Raúl de Tomas opened the scoring for the home team, but Borja Iglesias (2), Guido Rodriguez and Willian José turned for the Seville team.
With the result, Betis remains in third place with 40 points – the difference to fourth place is seven. Espanyol, on the other hand, continues to have an irregular campaign and is only 11th in the competition.
The home team started the game well and scored in the 14th minute. Óscar Gil activated Raúl de Tomas, who invaded the area and hit the right corner beautifully. However, at 30, Aleix Vidal touched the penalty area with his hand and the referee gave the penalty. Striker Borja Iglesias hit hard on the left corner and tied the match.
Before the teams went to the break, Betis got the comeback. Fekir kicked in a corner to the head of Guido Rodriguez, who shot into the back of the goal.
In the second half, the visiting team took advantage of the spaces to expand with Borja Iglesias, at 8, after a pass by Canales, and with the Brazilian Willian José de cavadinha, at 31. At the end of the game, Raúl de Tomas was still sent off, after receiving the second yellow card.
Now, Betis faces Real Sociedad for the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey, next Thursday, at 16:00 (GMT). Espanyol, on the other hand, visit Athletic Bilbao, for the Spanish Championship, on February 7, at 17:00 (Brasília time).
