The Brazilian Football Confederation will require a vaccination card against COVID-19 from players and coaches who perform in its tournaments

It seeks to apply the health protocol in Brazilian football, before the start of the 2022 season.

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) announced this Friday that it will require proof of vaccination against COVID-19 from all players and coaches registered in the competitions it organizes, including the Brazilian League and Cup.

This was determined by the entity in the last update of its health protocol against coronavirus with a view to the start of the 2022 season. The competition for the Brazilian Cup will begin on February 23 and the League on April 10.

“The full vaccination certificate for COVID-19 is mandatory for all players and members of the coaching staff, without which there will be no right to registration for the matches of the 2022 season″, indicates an excerpt from the report.

The CBF also considers that the vaccination will only be complete once fourteen days have elapsed since the application of the second dose required by most manufacturers.

In the last call of the Canarinha, the Brazilian coach, Tite, left out Renan Lodi, side of Atletico Madrid, for not having the complete cycle of immunization.

On the other hand, the CBF will continue to require the presentation of tests, either antigens or PCR, from Brazilian teams, as determined by the CBF Special Medical Commission, which is advised by a council of infectologists and epidemiological specialists.

The restrictive position of the CBF contrasts with that of the country’s president, the far-right Jair Bolsonaro, who, within his pandemic denialism, tends to question the efficacy of anticovid vaccines and refuses to immunize children against the virus.

Brazil is currently facing a new wave of the pandemic caused by the rapid expansion of the omicron variant.

The South American country exceeded 200,000 daily positives on Wednesday for the first time since the outbreak of the virus, in February 2020, and on Thursday it reported its second historical maximum of infected, with nearly 170,000. (D)
