Sports minister reacted to fans’ plans to boycott RPL matches because of Fan ID

The Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin reacted to the plans of a number of fan associations to boycott the matches of the Russian Premier League (RPL) in protest before the introduction of the Fan ID system. His words are quoted by TASS.

Matytsin said that the ministry is ready to carry out outreach and is ready to meet with the leaders of the fan activists. Earlier, fans of CSKA and Spartak announced their readiness to boycott RPL matches.

The Fan ID system will work from June 1st. The corresponding law was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on December 30, 2021.

In early December, the State Duma adopted the law on the introduction of the FAN ID. At the same time, Zenit fans called the innovation a repressive measure.

Fan ID was tested during the 2018 World Cup in Russia. To enter the podium, each fan was required to have a personalized spectator card.
