Roma beat Lecce to reach the Coppa Italia quarter-finals

This Thursday, Roma qualified for the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia. Playing at home, the team confirmed the favoritism and, despite starting with a “scare”, beat Lecce by 3-1. With the classification, the team faces Inter Milan in the next phase of the tournament.

Roma came out behind in the match. In the 15th minute of the first half, Calabresi took advantage of a cross in the area and headed it, putting the visitors in front.

The tie came in the first half. In a corner kick, Abraham headed to the second pole, where Kumbulla appeared to test the vola to the back of the net and end the first half with 1 to 1 on the scoreboard.

In the second stage, Roma came with full force. With the entry of Zaniolo, the team launched the attack and, at 10 minutes of the final stage, got the turnaround. Zaniolo received from Mkhitaryan and gave a letter pass to Abraham, at the entrance of the area, who turned on top of the defender and hit the goal.

Soon after, another disadvantage for Lecce, this time in numbers. Gargiulo fouled Zaniolo, received his second yellow card and was sent off the field.

Numerical superiority allowed Roma to control the match even better and dominate the actions. Playing in the attacking field, the team scored the third goal with Shomurodov, who received a pass from Mkhitaryan and hit low to close the score with 3 to 1 for the home team.

Qualified for the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia, Roma face Inter Milan in the next stage of the tournament, but have national championship commitments before the knockout match.

The team returns to the field next Sunday, at 14:00 (Brasília time), to face Empoli, for the Italian Championship. Lecce, in turn, face Cremonese on the same day, at 14:30 (Brasília time), for the second division of the competition.
