ATP mail leak. And in it alarming news for Novak Djokovic

A few days ago, the French health ministry announced that it would be compulsory for athletes coming to the country for the competition. In addition, an e-mail sent to the players was leaked – the organization informs about the new rules on vaccination in it. What have we learned?

“Tennis players have been informed that the French government will soon pass legislation prohibiting unvaccinated athletes from participating in any sports competitions. Players will have to be fully vaccinated or have a medical certificate that exempts them from vaccination for medical reasons” – informs the portal “Tennis Majors” and publishes the content of the email. As we read: which will be held at the turn of May and June, will not be exempt from the new guidelines.

It is not known yet whether it will be the case that if a player has recently suffered from the coronavirus, he will be able to participate in the tournament. It is possible that a player who was already infected will still need to take at least one of the two doses of the vaccine. It’s still speculation, but the most likely option is that each player will have to be vaccinated with at least one dose to play Roland Garros.

What about Novaki Djokovic?

The new guidelines may complicate the already insanely complicated situation of Serbian no. 1st ATP ranking. Recall: he was deported from Australia and did not participate in the Australian Open tournament. This is the end of an almost two-week series with a Serbian tennis player, but also just the beginning of questions about the Serb’s future.

Djoković – due to his reluctance to vaccinate – may have a big problem with participation in the next this year’s and future tournaments. At the moment, Serb has 20 Grand Slam titles – the same as Rafael Nadal or Roger Federer. He only needs one win to become an independent leader among men. However, the chances of this can go down significantly if not vaccinated.

It is not really known what the health status of Djokovic is. The Serb claims to have contracted covid twice: in June 2020 after a series of Adria Tour tournaments, and in December 2021. Only in the first case he informed about it on social media, and in the second he was silent. It was only in the course of the hearing in Australia that the world learned that Djoković was supposed to pass positive for covid on December 16. Why did the leader of the ranking not share this information with the fans? .
