The meeting in the millionaire club had as its only point to deal with a protection action that keeps the directory elections suspended.
The Emelec board of directors suspended the extraordinary meeting of partners that was scheduled for this Thursday, January 20, alleging that the Municipality of Guayaquil ordered that the meeting cannot take place due to the health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“A few minutes ago we received a letter from the Municipality of Guayaquil, through the cantonal COE (Emergency Operations Committee), stating that the assembly called for tomorrow (today) cannot be held due to the health crisis. Consequently, it is suspended. Once the crisis has been overcome, it will be convened again, ”says a publication on social networks signed on Wednesday by “the board” of the millionaire club, chaired by Nassib Neme.
The appointment was going to take place at the George Capwell Stadium, in the lower area of the San Martín grandstand, with the board of directors on the edge of the pitch.
On January 4, Emelec decided, “in accordance with what was resolved in a session held on January 3, 2022” and guided by the club’s statute, convene an extraordinary general assembly with the aim of “knowing and resolving” the demand for protection action that has still suspended the elections in the millionaire cast, scheduled for next January 30.
At the beginning of the month it was learned that, based on a protection action, a judge suspended the next board elections in the Guayaquil club, a decision by which the current leadership of the institution – chaired by Neme, candidate for re-election – already expressed his “deep rejection”.
Emelec called for elections on December 15, 2021. However, between the 13th and 20th of the same month, twelve protection actions were filed, one of which was successful. (D)
