– “Szewa” has had a beautiful chapter in his career as a coach for Ukrainians and a very short, unpleasant period in Genoa. He was only two months old and the Italians had made the wrong decision. They fired him, though the whole movement seemed more forward-looking. It wasn’t Andrij’s mistakes that made that happen. He’s not a magician so that from such a weak team as he got there, suddenly turning into a leading Serie A club. Genoa did not provide him with good transfers. It was not his fault that he did not succeed there – says the journalist of the Ukrainian TV channel Football 1, Dmytro Szpyrko, for Sport.pl. The unsuccessful take on Serie A with Genoa when he took over the club was in theory supposed to be his springboard to fulfilling his big dream – moving to Milan and winning trophies with him as a coach. It is Andriy Shevchenko that may be the right one – points out Szpyrko.
And he immediately adds why Shevchenko is the perfect coach for the situation of the Polish team. – You have two play-off games ahead of you and he would be able to prepare the team for them. Ukrainian footballers said about Andriy that it is great, even a perfect motivation for the team for such moments. He can perfectly reach the players and build a relationship with them. This makes it easier for him to drive them and even if he lacks something in his workshop, his cooperation with the whole team replaces every disadvantage – describes the journalist.
Poland like Croatia in 2018? “I wish you this promotion”
According to Szpyrka, an interesting aspect of Shevchenko’s work in Poland would be his staff. – In the Ukrainian team he had two very important people behind him: Andrea Maldera, who was not with him in Genoa, and Mauro Tassotti, who also worked as his assistant in Italy. They made a great trio. We are talking about Shevchenko as this boss who can come to Poland now and change everything, but he will not do it without his associates. They feel the best with them, they were responsible for a large part of his success in Ukraine – explains Szpyrko.
The journalist also sees a certain analogy to the current situation of the Polish staff. – The case of Poland is a similar story to that of Zlatko Dalić in I remember that because Dalić was there for the last match of the World Cup qualification in Russia.
