Francisco Torres Hadathy described the contests that take place in Ecuador this year as “extremely important” and gave details of the tricolor delegation.

Francisco Torres Hadathy, president of the Ecuadorian Golf Federation (FEG), qualified as “extremely important”, that Ecuador will host from today, and until Saturday, October 23, the South American youth and junior tournaments this year, which find a field in the Arrayanes Country Club (Metropolitan District of Quito).

Ten countries come together on the Pichincha stage to participate in four categories: individual, by men’s and women’s teams and by mixed teams. Delegations from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela compete, with a total of 80 players.

How important is it for Ecuador to host these contests? Torres was consulted in a telephone dialogue. He replied: “It is extremely important. There is tremendous relevance, since the championships are followed by all the organizations that lead golf on different continents.. The winners play the Youth World Cup, in Japan. At the same time, it is an event that opens the doors for other competitions and even scholarships at universities abroad. These are conditions that give the tournament an elite category. It is a pride that these events are in Ecuador ”.

According to a press release, the youth and junior youth teams in each country are made up of two men and two women, that is, eight golfers for each of the ten delegations. The tricolor are Ana Valentina Guarderas and Isabella Yu Lee, in juvenile ladies; Avelina Ordóñez and Amalia Ortega, in junior ladies; Renato Naula and Phillipe Thorin, in juvenile males; and Manuel Corral and Agustín Moscoso, in pre-juvenile males.

In Ecuador, “those selected come out on their own merit,” said the president of the FEG, asked about the processes that the entity follows. And he detailed: “They are players who started participating in Federation events since they were 6 or 7 years old. This places them in a ranking, in which they earn points according to the results they obtain in the different championships. He has also had to do with the qualifier that took place last month in Arrayanes. Obviously, they are also considered as coach criteria, since they are boys who are part of our high-performance internal school ”.

In Torres’ opinion, regarding the possibilities of standing out that tricolor golfers have, “Ecuador has been equating forces with other countries” in South America. Thus, he elaborated: “In the technical part, which was the leg we were limping on before, we have risen a lot. This, because we currently use the same tools that are used in the US We have, more or less, the same technical training. What we lack is the number of players. We are way behind on that. In the country everything is still managed through private clubs. We hope that at some point there will be greater access to this sport. The leading countries in Latin America are Argentina, Colombia and Chile ”.

Ecuador is a member of the South American Golf Federation, as well as the International Golf Federation (IGF), the latter recognized by the International Olympic Committee as the world governing body for this sport. (D)
