Antonio Conte complains about the Premier League and so many game postponements: “It’s a mess”

Antonio Conte publicly confronted the Premier League regarding game postponements. The Tottenham manager told a press conference that the way the English league is dealing with the issue of the competition schedule “is a mess”.

Recently, the Premier League has been through a turbulent period. England is going through a phase of many positive cases of covid-19 and this also affects players. Several athletes from all teams were out of games because of this and that’s where the problem arises. The Premier League decided to accept some requests to postpone matches because some clubs would not have enough athletes because of the virus.

However, this left room for other teams to also ask for the same postponement with different reasons. THE Arsenal, for example, made the request for having many players out due to injury and call-up for the African Cup of Nations, but only one due to covid. This angered the Spurs coach.

“You have to make the decision to postpone just for one reason, if there are cases of covid. Not because of injuries, not because of international duty,” said the Italian. This line is motivated by something that happened to your team. The London club asked for the game against Leicester to be postponed due to having too many positive cases, but the league said no. The request was to have the players back against Rennes, for the Conference League.

Later, Leicester himself made the request and it was accepted, but there was no more time. The “Spurs” were unable to play the match for the European competition, there was no rescheduling of the game, a 3-0 victory was decreed for Rennes and the English were eliminated.

“If the Premier League decides to postpone games due to injury, that means maybe they have to try to make a better schedule. This is the first time in my life that there is a league that has postponed the game due to injuries. It’s very strange and surprising.”
