Xavi gives Dembélé ultimatum: “Either renew or we look for a way out for him”

The Dembélé telenovela seems to be reaching its end and had an ultimatum from Xavi. With five seasons, few games and a lot of confusion, the French player ended up with the patience of the board and the coach. In a press conference before the match against Athletic Bilbao, the Spaniard opened up about the situation with his athlete: “Either renew or look for a way out”.

Everything that involves the attacker’s name is a problem for the Barcelona. After his signing, the team’s former president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, said he was better than Neymar, who had just left the team for PSG. However, a combination of behavioral problems, such as being late for practice for playing video games late at night, and numerous injuries took away any hope of being worth the investment made.

140 million euros were spent on the transfer from Borussia Dortmund to Barça. Since then there have been 123 games in five seasons, a very low average for a player who should be important on the team. But when the current coach took over the team, he made it clear that Dembélé was part of his plans and wanted to get the athlete back.

A few months later and the situation changed. Xavi said that in his private conversations with the Frenchman, he said he wanted to renew, but his agent was trying to get impossible values from the board. The impasse reached the limit and the coach said: “We are in a complex, difficult situation. If he does not renew, the club must find a solution. We cannot be in this situation. We have waited a long time. Mateu has been in negotiations for five months and we can wait longer. Either renew or look for a way out”.

The player’s departure from the team means opening space for more athletes to arrive, Morata is one who is linked to the club, so the decision has to be taken quickly so as not to worsen what is already bad.
