Sports commentator Dmitry Guberniev expressed his opinion about the doping scandals involving the leaders of the Norwegian national ski team. His words are quoted by Championship.com.
The journalist drew attention to the fact that the Norwegians were repeatedly caught taking illegal drugs. “There are facts – three leaders of Norway are connected with doping: Martin Sundby, Teresa Johaug and Marit Bjorgen. Coincidence? I don’t think so,” he said.
In October last year, Bjorgen, in the biographical book “Heart of a Winner,” told how she passed a positive doping test at the 2017 World Championships in Lahti. The athlete justified this by taking the drug to shift the menstrual cycle. The explanation suited the International Ski Federation (FIS), which is why Bjorgen was not punished.
The Norwegian is the winner of the most awards in the history of the Winter Olympic Games among all athletes. She won 15 medals: eight gold, four silver and three bronze.
Sundby is a two-time Olympic champion and four-time world champion. In 2016, he was caught doping, overdosing on the anti-asthma drug salbutamol. In 2017, Olympic champion and 14-time world champion Jochaug was also suspended for 13 months due to traces of the banned drug clostebol found in her doping test.
