The Russian Ice Hockey Federation (RHF) is considering the possibility of replacing the team’s head coach Alexei Zhamnov, who fell ill with COVID-19, for the upcoming 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing. It is reported by Metaratings.ru
According to the source, if Zhamnov is not allowed to travel to the Games due to anti-coronavirus restrictions in China, then the team will be led by Sergey Fedorov and Alexei Kudashov. It is noted that the candidacy of SKA head coach Roman Rotenberg was not discussed. At the same time, the FHR is counting on Zhamnov’s speedy recovery.
On January 17, it became known that Zhamnov did not arrive at the location of the national team, as he received a positive test for coronavirus. The team went to training camp in Novogorsk without a coach.
The Beijing Olympics will be held from 4 to 20 February. The Russian national ice hockey team in the group stage will play with Switzerland on February 9, with Denmark on February 11 and with the Czech Republic on February 12.
