The EHF reacts to the scandal before the Poland-Germany match at the European Championship

Let us recall that on Tuesday morning Polish handball players were tested for coronavirus before the match with which according to the union were “sudden and unexpected”. They had to wait several dozen minutes for them – first in front of the hotel, waiting for the arrival of the bus that took them to the test site, and then on the spot, in a line in front of others taking the test.

The president of ZPRP thundered about how the Slovaks treated Poles. “It’s hard for us”

– It is incomprehensible to us -. He knew that the tests themselves were ordered by the EHF, and that the German players also passed them before, so there was no play in the direction of Patryk Rombl’s team. However, he blamed the Slovak organizers for the fatal circumstances of their performance.

– We are having a hard time living it all. This is a difficult situation for us. Especially for the players. A few hours before a very important match, they stood outside, in very difficult weather conditions, and waited for their turn [wszystko trwało 30 minut]. It is the fault of the Slovaks how they carry out the tests. expects us to test ourselves, we have no choice, otherwise we would face severe disciplinary sanctions [z wykluczeniem z turnieju włącznie], but the organizers should provide good conditions – said the activist.

EHF announcement on the tests of Poles. “Conditions were not perfect”

We asked people responsible for the performance of the tests on the Slovak side, but also in the EHF and the organizing committee of the entire championship, also held in Hungary. EHF’s comment on Szczepański’s words and how Poles were treated was sent to us by its media and communication director, Thomas Schoeneich. We publish it in full below.

“Referring to the incidents that were mentioned in the earlier news and are related to previous events during the tournament [W artykule Łukasza Jachimiaka padają też informacje o tym, jak Polacy musieli przejść cztery testy na Covid jednego dnia, a także co chwilę zmieniano decyzję odnośnie możliwości zjedzenia posiłku, które to sprawy polski związek oprotestował w piśmie do EHF – red.], were handed over immediately and directly between the EHF and then also with the Slovak organizing committee.

Based on the issue of several infections within the Polish national team, it has already been announced that the team will be tested daily. The Polish delegation was aware of this.

There were unexpected problems with the smoothness of the test execution and the capacity of the test site. The conditions under which the tests had to be performed – due to the lack of alternatives – were not ideal. The EHF acknowledges this and apologizes for the inconvenience it has created. ”

Poles’ tests are negative with one exception. In the evening, the match against Germany

The Polish team tried to focus on the difficult evening match with Germany. – It is difficult, it is what it is, we cannot give in to our nervousness. We cannot stir up negative emotions, we need inner peace before the match with Germany. It is all very difficult, incomprehensible, you cannot accept it internally, but still you have to – said Henryk Szczepański in the morning.

. Only Maciej Gębala had a positive result, but he was reported to the EHF as a healer and will probably play with Germany. The ZPRP is to discuss it with the federation and inform about the player’s availability.

The meeting starts at 18:00. Live coverage on Sport.pl and in the Sport.pl LIVE mobile application.
