This Tuesday, Cádiz hosted Espanyol for the 21st round of the Spanish Championship. Wanting to get away from Z3, the home team came out behind, got the turn in the final minutes of the match, but gave up the tie in the last play of the game.
With only 10 ball rolling, Espanyol made a beautiful move and, after exchanging passes, Manu Morlanes received it at the entrance of the area and hit to open the scoring. At a disadvantage, Cádiz tried to equalize in the first half, but the game went to half-time with the visitors winning.
On the return for the second half, however, it took nine minutes for Álvaro Negredo to shine and score the equalizing goal.
Subsequently, two goals by Negredo were disallowed, one of them at the end of the game. In the 35th minute of the final stage, the forward scored with a header, but VAR identified a foul on goalkeeper Diego López and canceled the bid.
The disallowed goals, however, did not stop the home team and, in extra time, Alejo took advantage of Álvaro Negredo’s side kick and turned the game around, leading to victory.
But the script still had one more twist. In the 50th minute of the second half, Espanyol equalized. Raúl de Tomás received a cross from Sergi Darder and left everything even on the scoreboard in the last play of the game.
With the result, Cádiz remains in the relegation zone, occupying the 19th position. Espanyol is in 11th place with 27 points.
Earlier, also for the 21st round of the competition, Betis thrashed Alavés. Playing at home, the team scored their goals with Borja Iglesias, twice, Canales and Juanmi.
Iglesias opened with a header in the 11th minute. At 29, Canales hit from outside the area, left-handed, and widened. Still in the first half, in the 44th minute, Borja Iglesias appeared once again to score the third.
The rout was ended in the second stage, when Juanmi took advantage of a beautiful counterattack, received a pass from Fekir and closed the account.
After the rout, Betis reaches 37 points, is in third place and is approaching second-place Sevilla. Alavés, on the other hand, is in the relegation zone, occupying the 18th place, with 17 points.
