The closer to the Olympics, the more concerns about coronavirus infection among athletes. Another positive result in the world of ski jumping only confirms the validity of such feelings.
Stoeckl took the risk. He called up an infected jumper
This information is so disturbing for the team of Alexander Stoeckl that the close contact of Daniel Andre was indicated as the winner of the Sunday competition at Wielka Krokiew and one of the main favorites for Olympic gold. For this competitor, the test performed shows a negative result for the time being, but it is not known how it will be in the following days.
Nevertheless, the coach decided that both Tande and Lindvik would be called up for the games. Apart from them, the Norwegians included: Johann Andre Forfang, Halvor Egner Granerud and Robert Johansson. Stoeckl will have little time to change his mind. The final composition must be submitted by January 24. The trainer therefore has to rely on Tande to recover quickly and that Lindvik is not infected. Otherwise he will have to make changes.
Michal Doleżal was in a similar situation, who, despite a positive result, appointed him to the Olympic team. The world champion in Seefeld, however, obtained the test result last Thursday. It therefore has much more time to recover.
– We will talk to the Olympic committee and our doctor to see what options we have. Basically, we hope that the entire team will be able to go to the Olympics, admits Stoeckl, quoted by NRK. The trainer adds that he will consider the possibility of a later departure to China than originally assumed.
In the country of the fjords, however, they have a lot of concerns that there will not be a large focus of infections in the frame right now. Even greater doubts are regarding the departure of the infected two players. They must first get a negative test result. And it’s not one.
– Very many countries have their own restrictions on how long you can enter the country after passing a positive test. This is the so-called “certificate of recovery”. It is much longer than ten days in most countries, says Siri Laura Feruglio of the Norwegian Institute of Public Health.
Halvor Lea, communication manager at the Norwegian Olympic Committee, points out that athletes who have had the coronavirus must have as many as four negative test results before leaving. – Two of them must be completed eight days before departure. One is 96 hours before departure and another 72 hours before departure – explains Lea.
