American mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Aljamain Sterling has called for the imprisonment of fighters convicted of doping in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He shared this opinion in The MMA Hour podcast on the YouTube channel MMAFightingonSBN.
“This shit really bothers me. Everyone should go to jail for using EPO, steroids or any other shit like that in the UFC,” Sterling shared. He noted that his position also applies to combat sports in general.
According to the athlete, the one who uses doping can seriously affect the opponent’s career. “But his livelihood depends on it. This sport is not like playing basketball or baseball. We are dealing with events when we enter the octagon that can affect life,” Sterling explained.
On December 26, the American turned to the Russian fighter Peter Yan. Sterling stated that he was ready to fight an opponent, and called him a dirty rat. He also drew attention to the problems with doping in Russia, accusing the people of the country of cheating.
In March 2021, Sterling defeated Yan to become the UFC Bantamweight Champion. In total, the American has 20 wins with three defeats.
