In 2021, the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) tested biathlete Larisa Kuklina and marathon runner Andrei Leiman more than others for doping. The list of the most tested athletes in the country was named by TASS.
Athletes were tested nine times from January to December. Doping officers made one less visit to skiers Alexander Terentyev and Anna Grukhvina. Gymnast Lilia Akhaimova was tested the same number of times, as well as athletes Vladimir Nikitin, Konstantin Plokhotnikov and Sergey Shirobokov.
This season Kuklina performed at the pre-New Year stages of the World Cup, and then was excluded from the main team of Russia. The athlete did not rise above 28th place in personal races, and in one of the relay races, together with the national team, she became eighth. Kuklina was not included in the team for the Beijing Olympics.
Leiman won the Russian marathon championship in 2021 with a personal record for the first time in his career. He is also a three-time winner of the Siberian International Marathon.
