The (107th ATP) has had a hard time preparing for the Australian Open. At the beginning of the year, he received a positive test for coronavirus, which could have completely excluded him from the tournament. He couldn’t participate in the qualifying session. So he had to count on one of the players to withdraw before qualifying. And that’s how it happened. The unlucky guy was Jenson Brooksby, who also fell ill with COVID-19 just before his flight to Australia. Majchrzak’s test result was already negative, so he could play at the Australian Open.
Great two sets by Majchrzak
In the first round, Kamil Majchrzak faced the experienced, 37-year-old Italian Andreas Seppi (101st ATP), who advanced to the fourth round four times in this tournament (in 2013, 2015, 2017-18). The players have faced each other twice – first in 2017 Seppi was better on the grass courts in Antalyai 6: 2, 7: 6, and last year the Pole retaliated by winning the Nottingham challenge 4: 6, 6: 2, 6: 3.
In Melbourne it was Kamil Majchrzak who dictated the conditions on the court in the first two sets. He lost only two games in total. Only the third game was very even. At 5: 5, Majchrzak broke his rival, and a moment later he probably won his service and the entire match.
The Pole had a capital 87 percent. (40/46) the effectiveness of points won after the first pass (rival 71%). Interestingly, Kamil Majchrzak never lost his side, and Seppi had only three chances to break. The Pole also had more winners (28-20) and fewer unforced errors (29-38). Thanks to the win, Majchrzak has already achieved the best result at the Australian Open, because he has only been eliminated twice in the first round – in 2019 and 2021. In addition, it is already known that he will return to the top hundred ATP rankings. In the current live ranking, it is ranked 93rd.
Kamil Majchrzak will face the winner of the match in the next round: (Italy, 60th ATP) – Alex De Minaur (Australia, 42nd ATP).
