The Best: Enner Valencia and Gustavo Alfaro differ in voting

Ecuador’s captain considered Cristiano as the best footballer, while the Tri coach chose Messi.

Gustavo Alfaro, coach of Ecuador, and Enner Valencia, captain, chose different players in the vote for The Best, FIFA award for the best player in the world in the year and that this Monday rested in the hands of Polish striker Robert Lewandowski .

The German Bayern Munich scorer, who in 2021 won the Bundesliga and the German Super Cup, in addition to scoring 69 goals throughout a calendar year, won ahead of the Argentine Leo Messi and the Egyptian Mohamed Salah.

International media published the votes of the selectors, captains and the press of approximately 200 countries (federations).

In the payroll, it can be seen that Valencia, who in October became the national team’s all-time top scorer, voted first for Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese was seventh among those chosen.

The Tri captain put French striker Kylian Mbappé in second place and Argentine 10 Lionel Messi, winner of his seventh Ballon d’Or in November, in third.

Lewandowski repeats The Best

For his part, Alfaro opted for his compatriot Messi in first place. In second place he chose English Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne. And in third to Mbappé.

The Ecuadorian vote of the press was given by Tito Rosales Cox (Trade) to N’Golo Kante, Chelsea’s French midfielder; Karim Benzema, second; and Messi, third.

Lewandowski repeated The Best a year in a row, in a season in which he surpassed Gerd Müller’s historic record by scoring 41 goals in the same season in the Teutonic league. (D)
