Madelen Riera signs with Barcelona

Madelen Riera Bajaña, the all-time top scorer in the Women’s Super League, signed a one-year contract with Barcelona Sporting Club to lead the bullfighters in 2022, who are aiming for the title of the women’s competition organized by the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF).

The announcement of the signing of the attacker was made by the Canarian club in its official media, on Sunday, two days after the incorporation of technical director Wendy Villón, three-time champion of the Super League and who already knows Riera, was made official.

“When I had the call from the teacher (Villón), who told me that we would have the opportunity to be in Barcelona, ​​the first thing I thought was ‘it’s my team’”, declared the 32-year-old shooter, who also celebrated the title nationally the past three seasons of the women’s tournament.

Riera added: “I’m a fan of Barcelona, ​​I’ve always said it, I’ve never hidden it. I am a Barcelona fan. Now that I belong here I feel very happy. The objective is clear. If God allows me, may I have the opportunity to be the scorer again”.

The Guayaquil soccer player was the main scorer in the Superliga in 2019, 2020 and 2021, years in which she also won the championship, twice with Deportivo Cuenca and once with El Nacional.

Since the FEF tournament is officially called the Women’s Super League, according to the records of the rector of Ecuadorian football on its website, Riera played 58 games and scored 94 goals, his best campaign being 2019 (44 goals).

Barcelona also highlighted its reinforcement for having been a World Cup player with the National Team in 2015 and a national representative in the Copa América (2006 and 2015).

Meanwhile, after the Canarian club announced Villón, it also did so with soccer players Justin Cuadra, Iliana Bowen, María José Guisamano, Samantha Avilés, Tatiana Bermeo, Lisa Campos, Inés Johnson and Suany Fajardo. (D)
