Algeria, current champion, commits its permanence in the 2022 African Cup of Nations

The Algerians will play for the pass to the next round against the Ivory Coast next Thursday.

Algeria, current champion of the African Cup of Nations (CAN), its continuity in the current edition was seriously complicated by losing 1-0 to Equatorial Guinea, this Sunday in the second day of group E.

After disappointing in their debut with a goalless draw against Sierra Leone, Algeria has just one point from two games, still without scoring, and is bottom of their key, where Ivory Coast, which drew 2-2 this Sunday with Sierra Leona leads with 4 units.

Equatorial Guinea is second with three points and Sierra Leone third with two.

The last day, on Thursday 20, therefore appears dramatic for Algeria, which will play survival against the Ivory Coast, another of the powers of its continent and against which it will need a victory.

In their match on Sunday in Douala, Algeria was overtaken by a goal from Equatoguinean Esteban Obiang, a player born in Spain who plays for Antequera, a modest club in the Second RFEF, the fourth category of Spanish football.

Algeria thus sees an unexpected stop to a streak of 35 consecutive games without losing. (D)
