Wilfredo Leon reacts to the employment of Nikola Grbic in the Polish national team

The Polish Volleyball Federation has finally chosen the coach of the national volleyball team. Stefano Lavarini became them. Grbić, who worked with Zaksa in the past, was the favorite of the new president of PZPS from the very beginning.

Many Polish volleyball players have worked with Grbic in the past. Also among them is the host who plays for Serb-led Sir Safety Perugia. As the team leader revealed, in recent weeks they have talked a bit about possible joint work in the Polish national team. “I said he has a very wide selection of very good players and it will be difficult for him to build a first team.” It’s always better to have a problem in this direction – said Leon, who thus advertised work with the Polish staff.

The host also commented on the style of work of Grbic compared to that of the Polish staff in 2018-2021. – He’s very open-minded, but gets a little stern at times. However, every player knows that when a coach is not, he does not always fight for the first place. Nikola talks to all the players every day. He does a bit different workouts than Vital – he noted in an interview with.

Leon also added that the Serb prefers a harder style of play and puts a lot of emphasis on the mental aspect. – There is no such thing as a bad day for him. When a head hurts, he says that you have to learn to play with it, because this can also happen during a match. You should focus on competition, not think too much about pain, because in the future it can be a companion for winning the most important trophies. I really like this approach. He does not let go – he also revealed.

For now, Grbić does not say much about working with the Polish team, especially since the national team season starts in May. At this point, the Serb wants to focus on working at Sir Safety Perugia. This will be the sixth job for an experienced trainer. Career as a trainer in 2014 in the same place where he trains now – Sir Safety Perugia. He was also already a national team coach – he worked in Serbia for four years from 2015 to 2019, where he combined this function with leading Calzedonia Verona in Serie A. Later he joined ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle, with which he won the Polish Cup, the country’s runner-up, and then won The Champions League.
