The derby between Betis and the Sevilla, from the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey, has been suspended after the sevillista Joan Jordan received in his head the impact of a bar, apparently made of plastic, thrown from Benito Villamarín’s South Goal, just after the local team tied at one. It was the 39th minute of the match.
After eight minutes in which the game was stopped to attend to the footballer, and in the middle of the conversations between the coaches and players of both teams with the referee, the referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea, who was very close to the action, picked up the object thrown from said stands.
The referee handed it to the field delegate and decided that the match would be interrupted when there were still 6 minutes left in the first half.
From then on, the Sevilla fans withdrew to the locker room and the Betis players stayed on the sidelines of the pitch, while the video scoreboards reminded them of the need for good behavior in the stands and the prohibition of throwing objects during the time Standby.
Three quarters of an hour after the interruption, and while the protagonists and fans await events, the referee held talks inside the Betis stadium with the coaches and captains of the teams and then made the decision to suspend the match.
The incident occurred with the score at 1-1 after goals from the Papu Gómez Y Nabil Fekir.
