Another match from the 22nd round of the English Championship had to be postponed due to the outbreak of covid-19 in the squad. The Premier League announced this Saturday the postponement of the classic between Tottenham and Arsenal, which would take place this Sunday at 12:00, at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The request was made by the Arsenal team, which has fewer players than necessary to enter the field: 13 outfielders and a goalkeeper. The problem caused due to the cases of covid-19, combined with injuries and absences of players who are defending the teams in the African Cup of Nations.
The match between Burnley and Leicester, first scheduled to take place this Saturday, also had to be postponed. The request was made by Burnley.
The decision generated a reaction from Tottenham, who ended up being disqualified from the European Conference by WO, when their request was not accepted to postpone the match, and even so did not enter the field.
“We ourselves were disqualified from the European Conference League after a significant number of COVID cases meant we needed to reschedule a game and our request to change our Leicester game was not approved – only to be later delayed when Leicester applied.” says the statement.
