After uncertainties about his future, Alexandre Pato renews with Orlando City

Orlando City confirmed on Saturday the renewal of striker Alexandre Pato’s contract for another year.

In November, the striker admitted that his future was still undefined and was speculated on Brazilian teams, however, he decided to stay in the United States.

The 32-year-old signed with the Lions in February 2021, however, his time there was cut short early in the season due to a knee injury. After six months of recovery, Pato was again available in the squad.

When announcing the striker’s renewal, Luiz Muzzi, Orlando City’s general manager and executive vice president of football operations, spoke about the expectation he has in the player for the 2022 season.

“He is working hard to get back to his best form and we look forward to him having an impactful year for the club. We are excited for him to return and play an important role both on the pitch and in the dressing room this season,” he said.

His last spell in Brazil was in 2019, when he played for São Paulo, where he made just 20 games and scored five goals.

In his social networks, Alexandre Pato celebrated the new agreement with the North American team.

“A new year, a new goal! After a year of much learning and overcoming. We will go again together! A year that God started acting since last year”, published the player.

Orlando City has its first commitment in Major League Soccer 2022 (MLS) on February 27, against Montreal.
